Right to Information Act 2005
About Right to Information Act
The Right to Information Act (RTI) is an Act of the Parliament of India which sets out the rules and procedures regarding citizens' right to information. It replaced the former Freedom of Information Act, 2002.
Under the provisions of RTI Act, any citizen of India may request information from a "public authority" which is required to reply expeditiously or within thirty days. The Act also requires every public authority to computerize their records for wide dissemination and to proactively publish certain categories of information so that the citizens need minimum recourse to request for information formally.
Objectives of RTI Act
- To promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority.
- To set up a practical regime for citizens to secure access to information under the control of public authorities.
- To promote efficiency, citizen participation, and reduce corruption in public affairs.
Pandit Shambhu Nath Shukla Vishwavidyalaya, Shahdol is committed to providing information to citizens as per the provisions of the RTI Act, 2005, promoting transparency in university operations and administration.
